Wow what a feast for the eye at the counter, such a yummy looking selection of cakes and savories. We had coffee which was great and two huge and tasty cheese scones. The cafe can get very busy and it is not unusual to have to wait for a table at busy times. Oh, those scones were good. :-).
Update Feb 2022 - still just as good. The carrot cake is superb, the best I have ever had, and I've had a lot of cake.
Oct 24, still great but the large portions are now just big!
June 2022 - still great.
April 2023 - still great.
Feb. 2024 - still great.
July 2024 - more 🥕🍰😋.

Always great food here, so much so, its difficult to choose what to get. Sandwiches are delicious, cakes are decadent and cream tea best in local area.

Requested a bespoke birthday cake for my 60th birthday to provide 100 servings. The attentive, friendly and polite owners gave me ideas and I was thrilled with the final ‘cake’ . In 3 tiers we had a chocolate gf cake with double cream and smooth ganache, decorated with truffles, then a 2nd separate ‘tier’ of a moist, delicious carrot cake with cream cheese ‘icing’ and a top tier of a light and fluffy Victoria sponge, decorated with fresh strawberries. Superb attention to detail and I was constantly being asked where the cakes were from! Thank you Sarah and Jane. Totally recommend.

Sadly todays lunch was Very dissapointing. We waited 20 minutes to be served. People who came in after us (5--15 mins)were served before us.
We had Quiche, which was barely warm. No seasoning in the quiche!. Potatoes salad, tired. A great dissapointment.
I'st time in years of going there, that I was totally disappointed.
When asked if all was OK. I said the Quiche was barely warm. Nothing done about it.
Therfore, sadly, I will not be going there again.

We highly recommend Cafe Cou Cou for your wedding cake.
Cafe Cou Cou crafted us three of the most beautiful (and tasty) cakes we had ever eaten for our wedding. The service was fantastic and the cakes were impeccable.

Very good place for breakfast in this nice and quiet town. People are so friendly with a lot of smiles. Will definitely come again. They have have their own bakery. The biscuit comes with the coffee taste like homemade.

Because I have been coming here for 19 years, I had not thought of writing a review until today.
Jane and Sarah put their hearts and souls into this gorgeous cafe that cook everything they serve from scratch, including their, to die for, breads, cakes, scones, quiches, full breakfasts, pancakes, grsnoka and fruit and the list goes on.
I will always support small businesses and Cou Cou is the easiest to do so because the food, whether eat in or take away is always exceptional.
They have provided the food for many celebrations and my guests always rave about it and become firm regulars.
I would not hesitate in recommending this hidden gem in Saffron Walden.

Excellent café, very cosy. Handy stop off from M11. Had very tasty grilled sandwiches, one with spicy chicken the other bacon & avocado on home made granary bread. Followed by a scrummy apple cake with cream, and a pot of tea. All the staff were attentive and courteous.
People with limited mobility.might struggle with step at entrance and upstairs toilet though I didn't check iif there was an alternative entrance and ground floor toilet

I have long been a supporter of these guys, very big portions and so tasty. Often have to wait for a table when they are busy but their coffee and food is delicious and I have never had a bad meal, some might consider it to be expensive but in my opinion it is fantastic value for money. THANK YOU guys, you are our first choice in Saffron Walden every time.

Needed to wait quite a bit to be seated The cakes looked lovely but we did not try. We had a goat cheese salad which was amazing and a roasted vegetable Filo quiche which I found a bit plain. I would definitely try their sweets next time
